Results of Medical Information Development by Online Technology
Background: The development of a medical website - Phimaimedicine.blogspot.com (now: Phimaimedicine.org) - has been created to provide medical knowledge and information for physicians and public health personnel. With the continuous increase of website visitors and page viewers, a research
study was conducted for the rate of using website, characteristics of website visit, advantages,
and applications, including suggestions and opinions for the website.
Methods: The collection of statistics was done from the website - Histats.com - during the
first year of study (September 2009 - August 2010) compared with the second year
(September 2010 - August 2011) among website visitors and page viewers. Also, a
descriptive study was performed by using questionnaires during September 2011.
Results: There were a total of 50,231 website visitors and 99,059 page viewers in the first
year, with an increasing number to 225,545 website visitors (449%) and 355,776 page
viewers (359%) in the second year. The results showed a good level of satisfaction (84.86 %),
with great advantages of medical website for all investigation (mean=3.98) including
manuals and guidelines for patient diagnosis/management, better knowledge for teaching and
research, believable, full references, and continually updated. Importantly, the website was
praised as a good source of continuous medical information, interesting, and thankful for
website creating, However, it was advised to set the category by subject, enhance some
contents, add tools for easy search, and continually update website.
Conclusion: The medical website - Phimaimedicine.blogspot.com – continually has an
increasing number of website visitors and page viewers following the high level of
satisfaction as an advantage medical website, good level for all investigation including
manuals and guidelines for patient diagnosis/management, better knowledge for teaching and
research, believable, full references, and continually updated. If the development is
continued, it will be an advantage website for physicians, public health personnel and general
public as a whole.
